Man… this one stings. Kelley Mack—yeah, the actress who played Addy on The Walking Dead—passed away at just 33. Totally unfair. She died on August 2nd, back home in Cincinnati, after a brutal fight with this insanely rare and aggressive brain tumor. Glioma. I mean, it’s the kind of thing you read about and think, “Wait, that happens to people in their thirties?” Life just doesn’t play by the rules.
Her family broke the news on Instagram. The post was gut-wrenching, talking about how Kelley’s spirit was so bright and how they’d seen butterflies and felt like it was her checking in. That part honestly got me. She spent her last moments with her mom and aunt beside her—can’t imagine how hard that must’ve been.
If you’re a TV junkie (like me), you definitely saw her on The Walking Dead back in season 9. She also popped up on Chicago Med as Penelope Jacobs, and did a spot on 9-1-1. On the movie side, she killed it as Alice in Broadcast Signal Intrusion and went full horror-comedy in Delicate Arch. Her last project—Universal—just dropped this year.
Kelley didn’t keep her health struggles a secret, either. She went public in January, talking openly about the pain and weird nerve stuff she was dealing with. Turns out, it was that nasty tumor. After her biopsy, she lost most of the use of her legs and needed a wheelchair. But, damn, she just kept sharing her story, honestly and without sugarcoating it for anyone. She got her start in commercials as a kid—classic “here’s a video camera, go wild!” birthday gift kind of thing. Ended up studying film at Chapman University, made her own award-winning shorts (A Knock at the Door was a festival favorite), and racked up 35 acting credits plus five as a producer. TV, film, voice work—she was always hustling.
Family-wise, she leaves behind her parents, her sister Kathryn, brother Parker (who acts too), her grandparents, and her partner Logan Lanier. The online tributes from coworkers and fans? All pouring out love for her warmth, grit, and creativity.
Her family’s planning a remembrance event on August 16th in Ohio. If you’re nearby, maybe light a candle for her or something. She gave a lot to the world in a short time. Rest easy, Kelley.
